An actor who played tokusatsu (special effects) heroes in the 1970s. His stage name, “Daisuke Ban,” was given by Shotaro Ishinomori, the creator of Kikaider.

In 1972, he made his official debut when he was cast as the lead role of “Jiro” in the tokusatsu TV drama Android Kikaider. He appeared in all 43 episodes of Android Kikaider (1972–1973) and later reprised his role as Jiro, the younger brother of Ichiro, in the sequel Kikaider 01. While Kikaider gained popularity in Japan, it achieved an even greater breakthrough in Hawaii, USA.

In 1973, when the show was broadcast on Hawaiian TV stations, it recorded consistently high ratings. The show captured the hearts of Hawaiian children at the time.

During a children’s event where fans could meet “the real Jiro and Kikaider,” approximately 36,000 people attended, causing the venue to descend into chaos due to the overwhelming excitement of the fans.

Even now, Daisuke Ban visits Hawaii several times a year for events. Generations of fans, including those who grew up watching Kikaider in the 1970s and their children, continue to show their love for the series.
